XPEL Stealth and XPEL Color Explained: Satin PPF and Colour-Change Protection Film

By Carsbuddy ·

Most PPF is clear and invisible. Two XPEL films are not: XPEL Stealth and XPEL Color. They protect the paint like any other PPF, but they also change how the car looks. Here is what each one is and who it is for.

XPEL Stealth: Satin and Matte Protection

Stealth is a satin-finish film. Its job is to protect matte, frozen or frosted paint without making it glossy, or to give gloss paint a fresh satin look while protecting it.

  • Satin finish: mirrors the look of factory satin paint jobs and adds a sleek look to gloss paint.
  • Self-healing: a heat-activated clear coat removes fine scratches and swirl marks.
  • Easy care: makes flat finishes easy to wash and dry without harming the sheen.
  • Long-lasting protection: superior impact protection with a 10-year warranty.
  • Custom accents: adds a matte touch to gloss aero, carbon fibre, factory flares, splitters and trim pieces.

Who Stealth Suits

  • Cars that already have satin or matte factory paint, which is notoriously hard to look after and cannot be polished like gloss.
  • Owners who want a satin look on a gloss car without repainting it.
  • Cars where you want a matte accent on specific parts.

For satin and matte paint, a ceramic coating called Fusion Plus Satin also exists. See ceramic coating options explained.

XPEL Color: Colour-Change Protection Film

XPEL Color is a paint-like protection film that lets you change the colour of the car while protecting the paint underneath.

  • Bold finishes: OEM-inspired colours with smooth, low-texture surfaces in gloss, satin and metallic finishes.
  • Self-healing: an advanced top coat self-heals light scratches and swirl marks.
  • Defensive shield: rock-chip and road-hazard protection, with a layer about four times thicker than vinyl.
  • Durable design: non-yellowing, removable and backed by a 10-year warranty.
  • Easy maintenance: repels stains and contaminants for easy cleaning.

Who Color Suits

  • Owners who want a new colour without a respray.
  • Anyone who wants the colour change to also act as real impact protection.
  • Cars where being able to remove the film later, back to the original paint, matters.

Colour-Change PPF vs Vinyl Wrap

Both change the colour of a car. The key difference is protection. A vinyl wrap is mainly cosmetic. XPEL Color is a protection film first, so it is built to take stone chips and road hazards, and to self-heal. If protection matters as much as looks, that is a strong reason to consider it. We also offer vinyl wraps when a wrap is the right fit.

Looking After Satin and Colour Films

Flat and satin finishes need the right care: a gentle two-bucket wash, no abrasive polishes and no waxes that add shine. Follow the care guidance we give at handover. The general rules are in how to maintain PPF.

Installation Decides the Result

Satin and colour films show every imperfection, so preparation and fitting matter even more than with clear film. We use genuine XPEL film, cut to model-specific patterns by trained technicians. Read about our XPEL certification.
