How Long Does Carsbuddy PPF Last? Warranty, Real-World Lifespan and What Affects It
By Carsbuddy ·
"How long will it last?" is the first question most owners ask about PPF, and a straight answer is more useful than a big number. This is how to think about it for Carsbuddy PPF.
The Short Answer
Carsbuddy installs XPEL film, and our PPF is offered with up to ten years of protection backed by a written warranty. Whether a particular film reaches that depends on the film you choose, how it was installed, and how the car is looked after.
What the Warranty Is and Isn't
A warranty is a promise about defects in the film, such as yellowing, cracking, peeling or bubbling that is not caused by misuse. It is not a promise that the film will never be scratched, chipped or cut. Always ask for the warranty in writing and read what it covers. Carsbuddy gives a written warranty, and we explain the terms before work begins. Our warranty support also carries between our studios in Bangalore, Kochi and Coimbatore.
What Decides How Long PPF Lasts
- Film quality. Cheap film yellows, cracks and stains. Quality TPU with a non-yellowing, self-healing top coat holds its clarity. See the quality of Carsbuddy PPF.
- Installation. Poor prep and loose edges let in dirt and moisture, and the film starts lifting. Edge-sealed, vehicle-specific kits are installed carefully at our studios.
- Where and how the car lives. A covered parking spot is kinder than a street-parked car in sun, dust and monsoon rain. Highway-heavy cars see more stone strikes.
- Washing and care. Harsh brushes, strong chemicals and automatic car washes shorten the life of any film.
- Damage over time. A deep cut or a hard impact can damage the film on one panel, which can be replaced without redoing the whole car.
What to Expect Year by Year
We will not invent a precise timeline, because it differs between cars. As a general picture:
- Early on: the film is almost invisible, glossy and self-heals light marks.
- Mid-life: a well-kept film still looks clear. Light swirls come and go as the top coat heals.
- Later: a quality film that has been looked after remains clear and sealed. A film that has been neglected may show dirt at the edges or marks that no longer heal.
If the film does fail within the warranty because of a defect, the warranty is there for that case.
How to Make Your PPF Last
- Hand wash with a two-bucket method, XPEL foam soap and a soft microfibre mitt. Dry with microfibre.
- Avoid automatic car washes with brushes and harsh pressure at the edges.
- Wash bird droppings and sap quickly, before they sit.
- Do not pick at the edges or use a pressure washer close to them.
- Use PPF-safe products, such as XPEL Care Products.
- Come back for a check. Maintenance after the job is part of what Carsbuddy offers.
Should You Pay for Longer Coverage?
Match the film to the car. A daily-driven city hatchback may be well served by an entry film like ProTex Lite on the panels that take hits, while a luxury car you want to keep factory-fresh suits Ultimate Plus or Ultimate Fusion. We recommend by use, not by price. See how PPF works first if you are new to this.
